 On Friday 3 October, Mark McCarthy became the first Zululander to win a
national title at the 22nd Annual Science/Reef South African
Bodyboarding Championships held at his home break of Alkantstrand, in
Richards Bay. After a week of gruelling competition in a variety of
surf conditions, McCarthy emerged the overall victor in the elite Pro
Division.

Day 3 started with a show of solidarity for WP Team Captain, Deon
Meyer, who had to cancel his trip to SA Champs in order to be with his
father, who subsequently lost his battle with cancer on Monday morning,
30 September. We arrived at the beach and all the competitors sat down
at the waters edge and read a message from Deon.

The Second day of the 22nd Annual Science/Reef South African
Bodyboarding Championships where held today, 30 September, at
Alkantsrand, in Richards Bay.
We arrived at the beach this morning to find conditions substantially
bigger than the 1-2 feet that was predicted. Although the swell mostly
short period windswell at least made for contestable 2-3 feet
conditions.

Camps Bay bodyboarder, Sacha Specker, 25, hopes to set the stage alight while competing in the 22nd Annual Science/Reef South African Bodyboarding Championships, currently taking place at Alkantstrand, in Richards Bay. The event, which runs between 29 September and 3 October, sees South Africa’s best bodyboarders competing for the coveted Championship titles on offer in the various divisions.

There has been a fair amount of mystery involved in the countdown to this years Science/Reef South African Bodyboarding Championships presented by Zululand Fever. With only a few people on board doing the organising, not much information has been available. The mystery continues right up until and during the pre-contest briefing on Sunday 28 September at the Richards Bay Country Club starting 18:30 for 19:00. All will be revealed and a few more surprises are on the way.

 There will be a new trophy on offer at this years Science/Reef South African Bodyboarding Champs being held in Richards Bay from 29 September to 03 October. "The Chris Elliott 'Mother's Pride' Trophy for the years best 'Sly Guy'!
