PRIORITIES change, and lately one of my greatest priorities has been to keep a staple supply of nappies-on-demand in the house. Although I am and remain deeply involved in surfing; the people, the boards, the contests and organising other peoples’ lives, I haven’t been paying much attention to mine.

There is quite a bit happening in the international and local surfing scene at the moment. The world championship tours is coming into its last leg, with two childhood mates wrestling for the honour of world champion. Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson, both from the sunny gold coast of Australia are the two top seeds for the last event at Pipeline, Hawaii at the end of the year.

IT’S easy to get lost in the sea of routine. We are all victims in a world where people give in to the rhythm of habitual living. We merrily go about our days, checking the same spots, surfing the same boards and never really exploring outside of what we know.

I wrote a column three weeks ago that caused much upset within local bodyboarding circles, and I need to publically declare that in retrospect I regret saying many of the things that I did. Although my remarks were mostly meant as tongue-in-cheek, they were taken seriously by many; and I do regret any offence I may have caused.

THE first Blossom Canola Fun Surf Series event took place last weekend with over 125 surfers representing 40 schools within KZN. Bay of Plenty was the host for the Durban contest, with kids as young as seven years riding. It’s awe-inspiring to see youngster competing in events such as these.

Y.C. was quoted in an article for Fortune magazine as saying, "We're getting into the surf market, because it's never going to snow again, and the waves are going to get bigger and bigger. I see an opportunity."
