Billabong SA Junior Champs presented by BOS

The Billabong SA Junior Champs is set to take place at Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay from 30 September to 4 October, and expectations are high for some good surf around that time. The SA Junior Champs is a Surfing South Africa event, with Billabong the proud sponsors.

This year will see teams no longer representing provinces, but rather districts. The attending teams are Cape Town, Cape Winelands, Eden, Nelson Mandela Bay, Buffalo City, Ugu, eThekweni, uThungulu and the Development Academy team.

eThekweni are the defending champions.

The winners of the U17 Boys and Girls and the U15 Boys and Girls will be awarded their National Colours and will have automatic inclusion in the 2016 SA Junior Team

There has been some recent and well-publicized shark encounters on the East Coast, and Billabong South Africa has been proactive in their approach to the situation at hand.

“At the events we will have two jet-skis in the water, with both skis trailing shark pods in the water,” said Billabong South Africa marketing Manager Chad D’Arcy. “We will also have an anti-shark leash for every competitor to use in the event. On top of this we have the usual lifesavers in attendance at events, as well as the team of medics on duty.”

Event co-sponsors: DaKine, VonZipper, Skull Candy, Neff and Zigzag Surfing Magazine.
