The waiting period will start off with a moderate east swell combined with westerly offshore winds, which might see the event begin, but the weather pattern further into the waiting period is what looks promising. A series of cold fronts are set to make landfall in Cape Town early next week, bringing south-westerly swell and favourable offshore winds from the middle of next week.

"It's looking very promising," said Cape St Francis surfer Eric Stedman, the WSL Surf Director for the JBay Open. "We're having cold weather, and the wind has been good, so when those fronts hit, we can expect some great waves for the event in JBay."

Many of the top professional surfers are already in town, and there has been surf at Supers over the last few days for them to get into their boards, and get the feel of the down-the-line waves once more.

The Oakley X-Over will take place on the 9th and 10th of July, and the surfing event will commence at Lower Point on the morning of the 10th. The conditions for Lower Point also look promising, and the athletes are no doubt amping for this event, including wildcards Wihann Kotze and Tom Whitaker. For more on the Oakley X-Over -

The National Kite Festival is the final event based down at the Kabeljous hub on the 11th July, and it looks to be the most visually exciting event of the group. Power kites will be on display for the adrenaline junkies who love to put their bodies on the line and into the gusts of the wind. A range of stunt kites will perform a seriously impressive array of acrobatic tricks including formation flying, while 4 liner Revolution Kites will cater to the more experienced flyers. The capper is undoubtedly a demonstration by eight South African Kite Masters with their giant show kites set to cast some serious shade on the crowd below.
