Richards Bay's Liam de Villiers competed in the Corona Durban Surf Pro which was completed in glassy half to one-metre waves at Dairy Beach on Sunday.

Liam managed an exceptional semi-final (joint 7th) position overall in the Junior event, a Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) event for ages 18-and-under running alongside the bigger event of the World Surfing League Qualifying Series (QS) events for Men and Women.

Liam surfed a heat on Friday, got out of the water and drove straight back to Richards Bay for his Grantleigh Matric farewell, he attended the after-party, had a quick nap and then his dad Lourens drove him back to Durban for his Quarter-Final heat. Liam surfed really well advancing to the semi-finals and was really happy to have old school friends provincial cricket star Daryn Du Pavillon supporting him from the Pier.
