Thanks to the support of South Coast Tourism and the determination of UGU Surfriders Chairman Wade Botha and his committee, St Mikes will host a sanctioned PST contest for girls and boys in the U10, U12, U14 and U16 Divisions.

gromcompJust over 60 surfers from all corners of South Africa will make their way down to St Mikes to compete in the event which is forms part of the 2016 Surfing South Africa domestic surfing series. On offer are ratings points, R8000 in prize money and prizes thanks to the support from South Coast Tourism, Surfing South Africa and Lizzard. The popular C Bali Restaurant and Beach Bar will be supporting the contest by providing refreshments for the officials.

The South Coast Gromcomp is the eighth junior PST event in the domestic series this year and many of the country’s top ranked surfers across the five divisions will be competing this weekend.

East London brothers Bryce and Mitch du Preez are the top seeds in the U16 and U14 Boys Divisions. Olivia Izzard of La Lucia is number one seed in the U16 Girls Division and Kayla Nogueira of Umhlanga is heads the seedings in the U14 Girls Division. Christian Venter of Melkbosstrand in the Western Cape will be at St Mikes as top seed in the U12 Boys group and Nate Colby of Durban is seeded first in the U10 division.

The South Coast Gromcomp has attracted one of the biggest U16 Boys fields of the year and 31 surfers will take their places in first rounds of this division on Saturday. Also competing in the event are fourteen surfers from the Sisonke, Trafalgar and Umzumbe Surf Clubs

The heats and provisional format will be posted on www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za and these will be updated on Saturday and on completion of the contest on Sunday

The 2016 South Coast Gromcomp is sanctioned by Surfing South Africa, the recognized national governing body for the sport and presented by the UGU Surfriders. Surfing South Africa is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA).
