This 29th running of the prestigious national bodyboarding showcase comes hot on the heels of the highly successful national surfing champs that took place in early August.

In just over a month, over 150 of the country’s top bodyboarders will arrive to compete for individual national titles as well as the coveted Fishman Team trophy, awarded to the top team of the event. This will be the third time that the event has been held in Richards Bay with the last being in 2008 where local Mark McCarthy was crowned the SA Champ in the Pro Division on home surf. As an added bonus for tourism, locals and holidaymakers alike will get to see all the action taking place during school holidays.

The consistent surf in Richards Bay is great for a week long competition and this years event will see action in ten divisions namely: Development, Boys, Girls, Juniors, Pro Men, Ladies, Dropknee, Mens, Masters and Grandmasters. There will also be a bodyboarding clinic and other activities taking place during the week.

This event featuring some of the very best athletes in our country hopes to showcase the sport of bodyboarding as a lifelong, clean and healthy sport for local youth to get involved in as well as to further promote Richards Bay as a sporting venue of choice.
