Organisers took advantage of the solid 1 – 1.5 metre waves and pristine conditions on offer on Day 2 of the Billabong Junior Series presented by All Aboard Travel to complete the semi-finals in each of the seven divisions, leaving just the finals still to be run before the event and 2017 series champions are crowned on Sunday.
North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii – World Qualifying Series (WQS) surfer Matt McGillivray from Jeffreys Bay is primed to qualify for the elite World Surf League’s (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) for 2020 after placing third at the Hawaiian Pro 10,000 tournament on the weekend.

The South African team finished ninth among the 44 nations who competed in the 2019 VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championships at Huntington Beach in California, with Daniel Emslie (East London) posting the best performance of the 12 team members when he narrowly missed out on medal in the U16 Boys division.

Brad Scott made it three out of three in the U16 Boys Round one heats yesterday when he joined teammates Daniel Emslie and Luke Thompson in Round Two of the Vissla ISA World Junior Championships in Huntington Beach, California.
Zoe Steyn made a good start when the U16 Girls Division took to the surf for the first time in the event, cruising through to Round Two where she was joined by team mates Ceara Knight, who dominated a wave starved heat, and Kayla Nogueira.

Miyazaki, Japan, 10 September 2019 – South Africa’s Bianca Buitendag clinched the Bronze medal for third place in the Open Women’s event at the ISA World Surfing Games (WSG) presented by Vans in Miyazaki, Japan today (Tuesday).

Miyazaki, Japan, 9 September 2019 – Bianca Buitendag was the standout performer for the Mercedes-Benz Buffalo City South African Surfing team on Day 3 of the ISA World Surfing Games (WSG) presented by Vans in Miyazaki, Japan.
The 25-year-old former Championship Tour (CT) surfer from Victoria Bay in the Southern Cape advanced through two hard-fought heats in overhead waves on Monday to reach the Main Event Final where she is just one heat victory away from a third consecutive medal at the annual global showpiece.
As the highest placed women surfer from the African Continent, Buitendag has also secured provisional qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where surfing will make its debut on the Olympic stage in July next year.
